Coachella: Tupac Shakur Hologram

Recently, during Coachella, there was a performance by Dr.Dre and Snoop Dogg. They brought out many artists such as Eminem, and 50 Cent, but no guest caught anyone’s eye like Tupac Shakur did. Tupac Shakur you say? Yes! Dr Dre says that Tupac Shakur was brought back to life by James Cameron's visual production house Digital Domain, and two hologram-imaging companies, AV Concepts and the U.K.-based Musion Systems. This legendary artist died in 1996 but was brought back for one performance and he sang 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted from his album All Eyez on Me which was 9x platinum and was released in 1996 (1996-2012 CD Universe p. n. d). He also performed Hail Mary from his album The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory which was 4x platinum and also released in 1996 (1996-2012 CD Universe p. n. d). This album was released after he was shot and killed.
As soon as I heard the news of his performance I had to check it out and once I did I was astounded! I had never seen him perform because I was born after his death but this was just amazing! I was thinking about all the artists today and compared them to him and then I realized there was no comparison. Ever since this performance, there have been rumors that maybe next year there might be a Biggie Smalls hologram which I believe is a great idea! In a video with Dr Dre in 2012 a week after performing at Coachella, he said that this Tupac Shakur hologram was strictly for Coachella but he did not rule out the possibility of a tour. There have also been rumors that next year, possibly a Biggie Smalls hologram might be introduced and that might go on tour.

  1. It's very interesting that now we have the technology to produce a hologram of a dead rapper.
